Resumo
This Final Course Project (FCP), entitled "Human Comfort in Low-Income Housing: Proposal for Design Improvements through Studies of Wind, Light, and Sound," addresses the inclusion of human comfort in low-income residences through accessible Environmental Design. The objective of the research is to investigate how the three human comforts—thermal, light, and acoustic comfort—can be incorporated into the daily lives of residents of affordable housing. The aim is to promote the well-being of the target audience by facilitating rest, quality sleep, and environments with good natural ventilation. To this end, a survey using questionnaires, as well as computer simulations, were conducted to understand the main discomforts and how natural ventilation would perform within this type of housing. Results indicated that solutions such as the insertion of an indoor garden, indoor vegetation, and wind studies improved thermal comfort; changes to acoustic door and window frames and the use of sound absorption materials improved sound comfort; window orientation and zenithal openings of the indoor garden allowed for better lighting of the rooms inside the house. Finally, the expected results are identified as minimizing stress and the numerous illnesses caused by human discomfort in lowincome housing.
