Resumo

This final course project analyzes how the evolution of technical and scientific knowledge has contributed to the standardization process of engineering activities and studies, highlighting how updates to technical standards support and reinforce the development of electrical engineering projects. In this context, the importance of the periodic revision of standards is emphasized, as it enables the incorporation of technological advances, new operational demands, and climate changes into technical criteria, ensuring that projects remain aligned with their current context and reality. As an example, the study addresses the update of ABNT NBR 5422, published in 2024, which replaces the previous version from 1985. This standard covers the design of overhead electric power transmission lines, and its modernization reflects nearly four decades of technological and scientific progress, introducing new parameters and enhancing calculations already established in the earlier version. The project highlights innovations in key aspects such as criteria for meteorological conditions, conductor sizing based on thermal risk, and safety distances. These elements are comparatively analyzed between the two versions of the standard, revealing the main changes and their impact on transmission line projects. The identified differences are presented in the comparative analysis section and consolidated in the results, providing a clear view of the updates and their relevance to the electric power sector.
