Ações culturais nas bibliotecas públicas brasileiras : revisão de literatura nacional

Abstract

This paper analyzes how the cultural actions Brazilian public libraries are portrayed in the national scientific literature, based on a systematic review of articles, theses, and dissertations available in the BRAPCI, CAPES Journal Portal, and BDTD databases, from 1990 to 2023. The study is based on the hypothesis that literature demonstrates the relevant role of public libraries in promoting cultural actions that encourage access to culture, dialogue and social inclusion. The objectives include identifying the role of these institutions in society, analyzing the contribution of cultural actions to access to culture and verifying the presence of the three spheres of cultural action proposed by Teixeira Coelho (imagination, action and reflection) in the activities described. The methodology, with a qualitative approach, involved thematic analysis and strict selection criteria, resulting in 11 relevant studies. The results indicate that public libraries are fundamental spaces for cultural democratization and social inclusion, but literature often limits cultural action to cultural animation, without addressing its transformative dimension in an integral way. It is concluded that, although public libraries perform an essential sociocultural function, consolidating themselves as dynamic and inclusive spaces, it is necessary to broaden the discussion on cultural action in literature, aligning it with the critical perspectives of authors such as Teixeira Coelho, so that these institutions can fully act as agents of social transformation.
