Resumo
The objective of this work was to evaluate the main
current complications of the Cesarean section and some
reproductive parameters in bovine females. After the
general clinical examination and specific exam of the
maternal passages, 50 animals were submitted to Cesarean
in right lateral decubitus. Local anesthetic was used and
cloridrate of xylazin was used after taking out the fetus. The
incision was accomplished among the udder, the knee’s
pleat and the abdominal superficial vein; the suture was
made with categut and thread of cotton 000. The
postoperative consisted of antibiotic therapy and local
healing. Dystocias were currently: anomalous position of
the fetus, twin delivery, absolute and relatively big fetuses,
fetal monsters and partial uterine torsion. Related to the
fetuses, 24 were born alive and 26 were dead, which 14
were emphysematous fetus; two cows died and nine were
culled out. It can be concluded that the main operative
complications observed in this research were retention of
fetal membranes (44%), clinical metritis (48%),
associated retention and metritis (26%), wound dehiscence
(6%) and edema (6%). Cesarean section caused an
increase of the service period and the medium number of
services for conception of the operated females.
