Levantamentos dos registros de Mesosauridae depositados nas instituições do estado de Goiás: espécimes e salvaguarda

Abstract

Mesosaurs were possibly one of the first amniotes adapted to aquatic life, with their fossils being found in both Southern South America and South Africa, and which were important for studies of Continental Drift. In Brazil, they occur mainly in the Irati Formation, with emphasis on the state of Goiás. The municipalities of Montividiu, Perolândia and Jataí concentrate the majority of fossil finds. The methodological steps used in this work include: (1) bibliographic surveys; (2) study of areas of interest; (3) technical visits to institutions; (4) cataloging of materials housed in institutions; (5) preparation of a location map with the origin of Mesosauridae fossils in the state of Goiás. The study aims to catalog and map fossils in institutions in Goiás, creating a database and a map of possible occurrence locations, contributing to the knowledge about mesosaurids.
