Resumo

This paper discusses how the aesthetic representation around memory and forgetfulness problematizes the relationship between subject, time and space in Milton Hatoum’s novel Dois irmãos. In order to deal with the narrative structure of the novel in question, we analyze some essential questions for the contemporary Brazilian narrative, highlighting the problematization of the traumatic fissures in the discourse ofthe narrator, thus composing a ruined narrative. Memory, in Dois irmãos, is the result of a traumatic experience, configuring itself both as a strategy for representing the incongruities of acontemporary society and the feeling of melancholy that runs through the life of the traumatized subject.
