Resumo
Ten mixed breed dogs, with an average weight of 1 O kg, had swine corneas implanted in the left eye. The swine corneas were conserved in a cool, humid room during a maximum six hour period before implantation. During the postoperative period each animal was treated with one drop of gentamycin sulphate and one drop of 2% cyclosporin per day until day 28, when they were sacrificed. Each dog had blood samples collected on day O, before surgery, and on day 28 to analyze the white blood cell count as a monitor of the efficiency of 2% cyclosporin, an immunocellular supressor drug. From ten blood samples collected on the day of the implantation 80% did not present any alteration in leucocyte conditions, while 20% presented leucocytosis with neutrophilia, eosinophilia, and monocystosis. From ten blood samples collected on day 28, 70% did not present any alteration, and 30% demonstrated leukopenia with neutropenia. Although there were alterations in neutrophils, there were no alterations in lynphocite total count among day 28 blood samples, demonstrating that 2% cyclosporin does not interfere with the white blood cell count in the bloodstream under these triai conditions.
