Resumo
A serological study of Babesia caba/li was perforrned in 512 serum samples of eqüines in the micro-region of Goiânia. The prevalence of antibodies anti-Babesia caba/li deterrnined by the immunofluorescent antibody test was 90,8%, i.e. 465 out of 512 serum were positive. All serum were tested in dilutions ranging from 1 :40 to 1 :2560. The mos! frequent titer was 1 :320. No statistically significant differences were observed among age groups, breeds, species and sex. Based on these results the region was characterized as a highly enzootic area for B. caballi. The economic importance of the disease in the region was considered to be related to the potencial risk that it shows for susceptible animais imported from free areas.
