Pós-verdade e comunicação: a circulação simbólica como critério de verdade no mundo contemporâneo

Abstract

This paper aims to delve into the concept of post-truth taking into account the debate over the so-called communicational phenomenon. Indeed, the discussion about this issue has been enhanced in the contemporary world, after the adoption of the term as ‘word of the year’ by the Oxford Dictionary, in 2016, considering the specific nature of symbolic conflicts in social networks. To this end, it discusses, initially, the different concepts of truth, from a philosophical perspective, ranging from its background to pragmatic notions, making a thorough analysis of this notion from a communicational viewpoint. Subsequently, a comprehensive discussion of the different concepts of post-truth is offered, taking into consideration its specifically communicational nature and the implications brought up by this outlook so as to better comprehend this phenomenon.
