Resumo

In this discussion, as if we were doing an experiment, we started with an inquiry about why there should be Philosophy and Literature. We do this by going back in time, more properly to the so-called Greek Archaic period, assimilating the consensus that Philosophy and Literature, as we know them, derives from this people, at least in the West. To do so, we recover the old divergence between Philosophy and Literature formed from the archaic Greek period, considering the school of Miletos, born of Philosophy. We discuss the truth that both knowledge, Philosophy and Literature, produce, presenting that it initially dealt with the truth as if in opposition to Literature. Our discussion shows that, for Literature, initially, in its beginnings, truth appears as a communion of distinct compartments of truth, whereas for Philosophy, also initially, in its beginnings, truth appears from the questioning of given truth. Therefore, a series of voices from Philosophy and Literature are summoned to show how everything from that primordial moment to the next changes, causing Philosophy to speak of Literature and to become, in its way, a kind of another way at least in many cases. So, both Philosophy and Literature, they tell the world, explaining it, discussing it and interpreting it.
