By the end of the 1960s, Goiânia was already established and built. In this context, the collective housing buildings present in the Central Sector of the city, represented a new way of living and conceiving the inhabited space. Until the 1950s, single-family residences and apartment buildings of up to three floors predominated in their landscape, as the first Master Plan of Atílio Correia Lima prescribes. From the beginning of the 1960s, the construction of high-rise apartment buildings began to substantially modify this landscape, not only from the point of view of its morphology, but also of its scale; In this article, we will analyze the Building 28 de Agosto and the Dom Abel Building, which, because of their building typologies, are exemplary of the collective housing buildings built in the Central Sector in the decades of 1950 and 1960. The objective of this article is to evaluate, from the point of view of the spatial relations that generate with the urban and built space-that is, the way of making the urban connection between the ‘object’ and the ‘place’- the ability of each of these buildings to produce or not a part of the city that promotes not only quantitative changes, but also qualitative changes within a new conception of urban scale.
