Resumo
This work was aimed at evaluating leachate pollution
reduction in the sanitary landfill of Limeira-SP city
through a photochemical treatment using UV/
H2O2 process. The treatment was accomplished
in a Pyrex glass reactor of approximately 1.7 L
(internal diameter: 100 mm, external diameter:
145 mm, total height:300 mm). The experiments
were carried out through water refrigeration and
internal recirculation system of the leachate.
The best reduced values for environmental
control parameters were: 46 % of total organic
carbon (TOC), 93 % total of phenols and 97 % of
ammoniacal nitrogen and 91% of leachate color
reduction. These results were obtained through
the following optimized experimental conditions:
H2O2 35 mL added to the reactor in aliquots of 15
mL (starting), 10 mL (30 minutes), 10 mL (60
minutes), 45oC temperature, 400 Watts lamp and
90 minute treatment time.
