Resumo
Ten adult míxed breed dogs, with a 10kg average weight received swine cornea implants in the left eye. Post operatiive treatment involved gentamicin sulphate and 2% cyclosporin "A" during 28 days. Subsequently the animais were sacrificed and submitted to a left eye enucleation to examine the graft and adjoining areas using optic microscopy. Analyzing the graft area, it was possible to verify that the epithelial layer was preserved in 55% of the implants, Descemet's membrane was not preserved in 88.88%, endothelium was not visible in 88.88% and there was fibroblast proliferation in 100% of the corneas. Alterations limited to an inflammatory reaction were seen in 88.88% of the implants, prevailing neutrophils (55.55%), plasmocyts (22.22%) and lynphocytes (11.11 %), collagen fiber degeneration (44.44%) and pigmentation (33.33%). Alterations of the receivíng (adjoining) areas were límited to the transition zone with prevailing lynphocites (44.44%), collagen fiber degeneration (22.22%) and pigmentation increase (77.77%). The alterations observed suggest that 2% cyclosporin eye drops were not able to inhibit the rejection alterations.
