Resumo

Youth and Adult Education (EJA) emerges as a modality that aims to ensure quality schooling for its students, however it faces constant challenges that directly affect its structure. Based on this challenge, the present study aimed to analyze public policies for Youth and Adult Education since its constitution and its current consequences. It also established the following specific objectives that involved: carry out a bibliographic survey dealing with the theme; the analysis of theoretical and historical factors in the development of EJA and identify and discuss the effects generated during its political-educational structuring. Through a qualitative approach and using documentary and bibliographic research, we sought to answer the following research question of this work that asks: What are the losses that an EJA has had along the trajectory of its policy and consequences for its practice? During the study, it was possible to identify advances in some governments, such as Lula (2003-2010) and Dilma (2011-2016), as well as the lack of other governments, such as the current one in Bolsonaro (2019-currently), in employing public policies that meet EJA, as well as the need for recognition of the modality as a planned policy for human, political and social development, understanding that diversity needs to be understood as a historical, social, economic and cultural construction. Finally, it is noteworthy that even though EJA has been encountered by several challenges, there have been many advances and there is a lot to do and to fight for, as all the specialized and professional achievements in this work resulted from continuous struggles.
