Resumo
The present work aims to discuss the urban and architectural patrimony of the city of Goiania from the concrete case of Civic Square. The main motivation lies in the argumentation that underlies the dossier of overturning the mentioned space, for which an important part of the justification for preservation is due to the qualities of the original project of the city, authored by Attilio Corrêa Lima. Since the execution of the central part of the city, where the Civic Square is located, added several modifications to what had been conceived by Corrêa Lima, it was suspected that the motivation for preservation lacked solidity over the preserved object: apparently the project, and not the built city. Therefore, although one tries to escape from opposing dogmatisms, for which nothing is to be preserved, it is important to reflect on the preservation of the urban transformations demanded by the contemporary lifestyle and values.
