Resumo
That experiment had as objective evaluates the effect
of the termocauterization of the follicle after the removal of
the feathers primary (remiges) and of the amputation of the
II and III metacarpus (pinioning) to obstruct the flight in
pigeons (Columba livia). Thirty adult birds were used, 15
males and 15 females. Three treatments was utilized (group
1 the pinioning technique was used; in the group 2 was
practiced the termocauterization of the follicle after the
removal of the feathers primary (remiges); and the group 3
was used as control group), and ten replications each in a
complety randomized desing. When the pinioning technique
was used, there was not growth of the feathers primary
remiges, except in a bird (10%), but all birds not flight. In the
group in that the termocauterization was used observed
necrosis and typical signs of burns, besides replacement
partial or total of the feathers primary remiges. In that group two birds they usually flight and three flight with difficulty.
Evaluating the two procedures, conclusion of the pinioning
technique obstruct the flight in 100% of birds, while the
termocauterization only 20%.
