Resumo
In this study, we examine the laughter in the light of the studies of the French side of
Discourse Analysis, with recurrence of Michel Foucault. Mobilized, in particular the notion of utterance
and power relations from the political discourse. To this end, we take the statement as discursive
materiality, allowing effects of meaning in an enunciative situation involving subjects interacting in a
given socio-historical moment. Laughter, and statement raises interpretations, has a sense of purpose in
interaction situations, presents materiality, has several functions and exercising powers. also resorted to
studies which take the historical aspect of laughter, outlining some of its functions. Selected for this work
excerpts from the interview Dilma Rousseff granted to journalists of Jornal Nacional, broadcast on 18
August of two thousand and fourteen and also stretches the presidential debate for the 2nd round of
elections, organized by Bandeirantes TV and was the air on the fourteenth day of October 2014. the
corpus analyzed the many laughs that emerged, the effects of meaning and their role in the expository
scene, in order to meet the need of studying the nonverbal language, contributing to the enhancement of
interpretation of multimodal text or which have exclusively semiotic materiality.
