Inconsistências antropológicas observadas em corpo putrefeito identificado por registros odontológicos - relato de caso pericial

Resumo

Introduction: Identification of decomposing human bodies requires a complex forensic investigation, in which a multidisciplinary approach is necessary. Aim: To demonstrate the importance of dental records for human identification, when anthropological characteristics point out biological profiles that differ from the real identity of the victim. Case report: In 2014, a partially skeletonized corpse was examined for human identification. The analysis of the skull indicated sexual patterns both compatible with male (nuchal crest, mastoid process and supraorbital margin) and female (glabella/supercilliary arch and nasofrontal angle) gender. The skull also suggested an adult or elderly individual (open and closed sutures, dehiscence of the parietal bone, and pneumatization of the frontal sinus). Alleged relatives reported the disappearance of an 85-year-old male. The necroscopic fingerprint confrontation pointed 11 points of similarity, yet still insufficient to establish positive identification. Dental examination confronted postmortem data with dental documentation produced in 2006, pointing out eight similarities, four explainable discrepancies and no incompatibility, allowing positive identification of the victim. Conclusion: Considering the inconsistency between the anthropological profile and the real biological profile of the victim, caution should be taken in assessing the age and sex based solely on examination of the skull, as imprecise results may hamper investigations.
