Resumo

The durability, performance, efficiency and service life of building materials, systems and components can be compromised by failures in watertightness and waterproofing systems. Non-destructive (ND) techniques have been used to improve investigations in buildings under construction and in use that present problems related to the lack of watertightness. Thus, the aim is to show, through a literature review, the potential of ND techniques, as infrared thermography, holiday detector and ultrasonic wave tomography techniques (Ground Penetration Radar) for field failure detection in waterproofing systems. Therefore, a literature review was carried out in the Science Direct, Scopus and Engineering Village databases between the years2013 to 2022. As a result, thermography has been used successfully in detecting wet spots, but it can be limitations on temperature and time of day due to solar radiation. The electric field has potential between the substrate and the coated surface, had the main advantage of complementing the tightness test. With the radar technique (GPR) is possible to analyze the discontinuities, interfaces and defects in the waterproofing system. Thus, the potential for applying non-destructive techniques in field inspections to detect leaks is great and can minimize financial, social and environmental damage, among others.
