Sensoriamento remoto “das enchentes, inundações e alagamentos”: potencialidades e limitações

Abstract

Satellite imagery has revolutionized the way scientists obtain data and information about terrestrial landscapes and their dynamics. In this context, this article analyzes the potential and limitations of using remote sensing images acquired by passive sensors for mapping areas affected by floods, inundations, and urban flooding. The methodology involved a literature review and the analysis of images from the CBERS-4A and Landsat-9, which provide recent, free, and suitable data for municipal-scale analyses. To this end, images from municipalities located in the southern portion of the state of Bahia that were affected by these natural disasters were analyzed. The results showed that passive sensors present limitations related to atmospheric conditions in regional-scale analyses, making them more suitable for studies in smaller areas and in locations with low cloud cover.
