Resumo
This paper aims to highlight the thematic and formal composition of the Comedy The Cherry Gardenby Chekhov. Initially we stand on the Russian historical context in the late nineteenth century; a social moment of transformation and marked by an abrupt displacement of the subject, who doesn’t recognize the place where he is, socially and psychologically; keeping him in complete inaction and distant from intersubjective relations, that is lied in a state of denial and nostalgia. Then, it is proposed to identify the kind of realism that permeates the dramatic construction of the classic, including the ironic play of Tchekhov for the representation of the current socio-historical context of that time, which points his production and contributes to the formal crisis of modern drama. The paper analyzes how the nostalgic feeling of an aristocratic decadent family that moves as the theme of the play, precipitates and determines this Comedy: the renunciation of the dialogue and the present, as well as the predominant inaction in the construction of the characters. Thus, because it is characterized as a literature search, we rely ontheoretical assumptions of Szondi (2001/2011), Lima (2010), Bornheim (2007), Sachs (2011), Gonçalves (2011), among others.
