Resumo
This study aimed to discuss the challenges and possibilities involved in the neuropsychological assessment of older adults, considering both the specific characteristics of this age group and
the Brazilian context. A literature review was conducted as the research method, grounded in Neuropsychology, using books, journals, book chapters, scientific articles from databases such
as SciELO and Google Scholar, official documents, diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5-TR), and reference materials commonly employed in neuropsychological practice. The analysis of the
scientific literature revealed limitations related to the assessment of cognitive functions in older adults, including issues associated with psychometric instruments and conditions inherent to the
aging process. On the other hand, important diagnostic and intervention-planning possibilities emerge when the assessment process is conducted in a comprehensive, sensitive, adaptive, and
contextually grounded manner. The findings indicate that, despite the challenges present in neuropsychological assessment of older adults in Brazil, this practice is essential for differential
diagnosis and for guiding more precise and individualized interventions. Finally, further research on the topic is recommended, given its complexity and the still limited academic production,
especially regarding rehabilitation strategies derived from neuropsychological assessment
