Utilização de biomarcadores para avaliação da função cardíaca em pequenos animais

Abstract

Biomarkers are substances synthesized and secreted by an organ or tissue under investigation, in proportion to injury or illness that is affecting it. The use of these substances for evaluation of renal and hepatic function of patients is already a reality in small animals clinic, but the same can not be said in relation to cardiac biomarkers. This review article will present the main biomarkers used in veterinary cardiology, defining them and pointing out what their clinical applications against the major diseases that affect the cardiovascular system of small animals.
