This paper presents, by laboratory test results, the geotechnical behavior of the soil from the city of Goiânia-GO, Brazil, emphasizing the collapsible behavior of this soil, which is a clayey soil with high porosity. With the objective of identifying the collapsible behavior of this soil, double odometer and characterization tests were performed. From the characterization tests, a high value was obtained for the void ratio, what is an index of the collapsible behavior of the material. The compression rates obtained from the double odometer tests showed similar values, but the pre-consolidation pressure was 77.5% lower for inundated soil. This result indicates that, in this situation, although the compression rates are similar, the large strains are starting with lower loads. In the analysis of collapse, it can be observed that this phenomenon already occurs during the inundation process and has a high potential for collapse of the applied loads.
