Resumo
This work aims to understand how non-suicidal self-injury in women can be a reflection of gender-based violence. Through literature reviews, efforts were made to comprehend how gender-based violence is constructed and perpetuated in a historical, sociocultural context and how it affects women's mental health. Drawing on gender studies, it became possible to understand how the category of woman was created and how, throughout history, feminine ideals were violently internalized, thus normalizing what it means to be a woman. Structurally, in addition to disrupting authentic women's experiences, this type of control over bodies paves the way for various other forms of violence, resulting in suffering and delegitimization of existence. Furthermore, based on Gestalt therapy theorizations, attempts were made to understand how self-functions behave in a violent situation and, consequently, how self-harm is a reflection of a state of misery
