Desempenho clínico de pulpotomias com pasta CTZ: estudo retrospectivo

Resumo

The pulpotomy with CTZ paste (chloramphenicol, tetracycline, zinc oxide and eugenol) is a successfull technique according to dental staff opinions. But there is no scientific evidence about its use. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of CTZ pulpotomies in primary molars of 4- 11 yr old children, accomplished in a Family Health Program. Children had their dental exam (including radiographs) carried out by one dentist. The technique effectiveness was determined according to the following signs and symptoms: pain, abscess, sinus tract, pathological mobility, bone lesion and pathologic root resorption. In cases that a primary molar was exfoliated, the premolar eruption time and its morphological aspect were evaluated. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. From 40 observed cases, 16 referred to successive premolars; among them, 11 erupted normally and none of them had malformations. Twenty four treated primary molars still in function corresponding to 18 children were evaluated. A few of them presented coronal darkness (11/24), pain (2/24), abscess (1/24), sinus tract (3/24) and pathological mobility (2/24). Radiographs showed pathological external root resorption (14/24) and osseous resorption (14/24). In conclusion, the results showed that CTZ pulpotomies were effective in 29.1% of the cases (7/24) after 10 to 39 months.
