BUFU: um fotolivro sobre representatividade trans na cultura ballroom goiana

Abstract

This project proposes the creation of a photobook that documents trans representation within the ballroom scene of Goiânia. Rooted in the resistance of dissident bodies, especially LGBTQIA+ trans, black, and latinx individuals, ballroom culture emerges as a political-aesthetic space of performance, belonging, and identity affirmation. Grounded in a photodocumentary approach, the work seeks to explore the plurality of bodies, aesthetics, and narratives that coexist within the balls, focusing particularly on trans individuals. It engages with the visual and symbolic elements that define ballroom culture. The photobook is structured as a visual artifact that, beyond documenting the scene, offers a critical and poetic reading of trans visibility, corporeality, and gender expression, while also recovering the historical contexts that have shaped ballroom culture as a space of resistance, celebration, and survival.
