Resumo

This work presents a study about leaching and extraction of Pd and Pt from exhausted automotive catalysts (EAC). The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and it was identified as cordierite. The leaching of the supported noble metal catalysts was evaluated in aqua regia solution (3:1 v/v, HCl to HNO ) and sulfonitric mixture (1:1 v/v, H SO to 3 2 4 HNO ) at different time. The separation of the components of a mixture leached was carried through 3 with an ion exchange resin to 2-vinylpyridine-divinylbenzene (DVB-2- VPY) and metal eluted from the resin were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The exchange capacity of the resin was determined for [PdCl ]2- and [PtCl ]2- ions 1.74 mmol/g, and the highest extraction 4 6 efficiency achieved was 83.1% for palladium.
