Gestão ambiental municipal e indicadores

Resumo

Environmental indicators can directly contribute to the sustainable development of territories at all geographic scales. They come from objective data, but the selection of these metrics and choice of application methods are subjective, considering and capturing the demands and expectations of the applicators. Alone, a single indicator can not cover all the environmental spheres, however, it can help in the construction of analyzes of local environmental aspects and foster the construction of working hypotheses, providing the development of alternative scenarios to support the construction and maintenance of policies and support decision-making. The aim of this research was to describe the level of performance of the biodiversity theme through the indicator of Native Vegetation Cover for Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. For this, a performance scale was elaborated for the indicator, based on references and analysis criteria relevant to the theme. The increase in the level of environmental health in the local analysis unit will consequently lead to the environmental improvement of new units of analysis (regional and national).
