Efeito da lactulose na saúde sistêmica de aves inoculadas experimentalmente com Salmonella Typhimurium

Abstract

This study evaluated the systemic effects of lactulose in broilers inoculated with Salmonella Typhimurium. Broilers were allotted in a completely randomized design, with 630 day-old male chicks distributed in six treatments, with seven replications and 15 broilers each The treatments were respectively: 1 - control (placebo), 2 - received only lactulose (L), 3 - only inoculated with S. Typhimurium (ST) 4 - inoculated with lactulose and S. Typhimurium on day 1 of life [L (1) + ST (1)], 5 - received lactulose and 48h after the S. Typhimurium [L (1) + ST (4h)], 6 - inoculated with S. Typhimurium and 48 hours later with lactulose [ST (1) + L (48h)]. On day seven, 14, 21 and 28 of age, one broiler per treatment was autopsied and their organs collected and analyzed for bacteriology and biometric liver and that in 14 and 28 were performed pathological examinations of liver and serum biochemistry. Parametric data were analyzed by applying ANOVA and Tukey (5%) and by nonparametric chi-square. It was found that the lactulose prevented infection in the early period of life for broilers, showing a better effect when administered 48 hours before the pathogen inoculation. It was noted also that there was an increase of relative liver weight and mild changes in liver by Salmonella Typhimurium in all ages. It can be concluded that lactulose is able to prevent systemic infection and have shown better effect; and still provides discrete liver.
