Resumo
Bovine podal affections present a wide range of
clinical variations and result on significant economic losses
to raisers. This study intended to classify and establish the
prevalence of hoof diseases on dairy cows at the municipal
district of Orizona-GO. For detecting claudication 755 cows
of milking breeds were observed. Those animals with
presented claudication were contended for the clinical
examination of the hooves, diagnosis and classification of
the diseases when found. The classification followed the
criteria adopted by Greenough et al (1983), Silva (1997) and
Ramos (1999). Out of all the observed cows, 224 (29,67 %)
presented at least one sort of lesion on the hooves and ten
presented two different kinds of lesions. Among the 234
observed lesions, 87,66% were found on the hind limbs and
12.34% on the fore limbs. The most frequent diseases were
digital dermatitis (24,36%), verrucous dermatitis (14,53%)
and septic pododermatitis (13,68%). In a inspection in the
farms it was found that six of them (85,71%) presented hard
soil, three (42,85%) presented rocky soil and four (57,14%)
irregular floors at the barns. All properties presented
deficient hygiene on facilities and grazing areas. The
procedure of specific clinical examination was critical for
classifying the lesions and establishing diagnosis.
