Natureza e modernização em “O cacto”, de Manuel Bandeira

Abstract

This article is part of a research that aims to analyze the imagery of nature in relation to different aspects of Brazilian modernization in the work of Manuel Bandeira from a materialistic approach. The poem "O cacto" (The cactus), written in 1925 and published in the book Libertinagem (Libertinism) in 1930, is analysed, thus showing the combination of nature and culture in a highly complex aesthetic construction, which expresses a fierce criticism of Brazilian modernization.
