Resumo
The long history of invisibility of rural regions in the public policies on housing and sanitation in the country inspires the central question of this research: how is sanitation approached in social housing programs in rural areas? The discussion is developed from the experience with the Rural Housing Program (PMC), within the framework of the National Rural Housing Program (PNHR) in the municipalities of Silvânia and Vianópolis in Goiás, with bibliographic review; participant observation on the MCP rural sanitation agenda; survey and document analysis; and conducting semi-structured interviews with the actors involved in the implementation of the program. It was verified the incorporation of urban models in the rural areas from the structure, bureaucracy and operationalization of the program, inherited from experiences with urban housing programs. The sanitation issue is approached in a secondary way in the planning of housing from the point of view of public policy. Although they culminate in the same object, housing, public policies on housing of social interest and basic sanitation remain fragmented in different programs and initiatives in rural regions.
