Resumo

The paralympic sports are still little studied in the Brazilian academic environment, creating the need to increase research in this area. For this reason, this study aims to analyze what benefits the Paralympic Reference Center (CRP) has for people with disabilities who develop sports practices through this project. The research in question is on paralympic swimming. For this, the study was carried out by data collection, from semi-structured interviews and field diary, carried out in one of the cores of the CRP, in Goiânia, located at the Federal University of the State of Goiás-UFG. Eight students or their guardians participated in the interview, four males and four females. By means of guiding questions that had the intention of giving them freedom to express their opinions subjectively and freely, we had the goal of understanding their perception of well-being and health, and in what way the entrance in the project brought more benefits in the mentioned aspects. After the analysis of the information obtained, it was possible to realize that the practice of sports, for people with disabilities, helps not only the physical, but also the emotional and social aspects. In this sense, it is possible to conclude that a welcoming environment makes a lot of difference during the teaching-learning process of paralympic sports.
