Resumo
This article aims to present an argumentative analysis in the intercultural scenario of native English speakers discussing Portuguese as a non-native language and experiencing argumentative stasis-the opposite point of view in a dialogue-so that it might be perceptible how social and cultural estrangement (FARNEDA, 2012) favors the construction of tension during debates. In order to compose a descriptive analysis, the dialogical theory of Plantin was applied, on what the fundamental notion is that of the argumentative situation in which two opposing speeches coexist and measure each other, and thus defining an issue (PLANTIN, 2009,2011, 2016). Thi work foccuses on the argumentative conflict between two differents cultures in a friendly conversation about cultural questionsin a Youtubechannek, Harry Souroukides.Arguing in a mother tongue is already a complex process because it is necessary to use discourse strategies so that the arguments can be consistent with the course of the subject-matter that is being addressed in the debate; nevertheless, it becomes even more complex when the argumentation is carried out in a language in which the speaker is still in process not only of learning but also of constituting individuality. Thus, the level of mastery of the non-native language is decisive for the progress of the interaction and, through this, the importance of understanding these sociocultural factors is reinforced for more fluid and conflict-free communication.
