Introduction and objectives: The wastes from textile industries are harmful to the environment and
to man and are usually discarded in affluents, then it becomes necessary the degradation of these
constituents through specific techniques. Bioremediation is the use of biological agents in the
treatment of contaminated environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of
degradation of dyes TingeCor red and black by basidiomycete fungi immobilized in calcium
alginate. Methodology: Consists in cultivation, production and maintenance of mycelia of
basidiomycete fungi SC-5543 in solid medium (agar potato) and liquid (broth potatoes), and
subsequently immobilization of these fungi in calcium alginate and degradation monitoring by
spectrophotometry. Results and discussion: The calibration curve for the analysis of dyes showed
R2 of 0.9987 for the red and 0.9997 for the black to the respective equations Y = 0.0041 X-0, 0078
and Y = 0.0019 x-0, 003. The use of basidiomycete fungi SC-5543 immobilized in calcium alginate
provided a degradation of 35% of red dye after 120 hours of constant stirring, and 50.52%
degradation of the black dye under the same conditions. In face of a degradation of 11,91% of the
red dye and 10,11% to the black dye by the SC-5543 free fungi, in the same degradations conditions
of the immobilized agents. Conclusion: Immobilization of the SC-5543 promoted an optimization in
the process of dyes degradation, showing to be an effective tool in the bioremediation of textile dyes.
