Resumo
Aging causes several changes in the individual, making him vulnerable and subject to falls.
Among the main changes, changes can be observed in cognitive functions, sensitivity, vision,
vestibular system, somatosensory system, bones, and lower limb muscle strength that may
end up interfering with the balance of the elderly. In this regard, the present work deals with
the static balance in elderly practitioners of hydro gymnastics with the objective of analyzing
the static balance in an elderly subject who practices hydro gymnastics. In this study, we
analyzed the distributions of plantar pressure and the behavior of the center of pressure during
static balance with eyes open (EO) and eyes closed (EO) in elderly people who participated in
the extension project in hydro gymnastics at FEFD/UFG. Participants were 89 elderly of both
sexes, with an average age of 67.5 years. Plantar pressure recording was obtained using a
50x50cm Barosccan, Podotech plantar pressure platform with 4,096 capacitive sensors with a
pressure frequency of 50hz. Statistical analysis was performed using the Minitab 21 software.
After confirming the normality of the distributions and the homogeneity of the data with the
Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Tukey's non-parametric test was applied to confirm the intragroup
difference for the variable variables. A significance level of 5% (p≤0.05) was used as a
statistical reference. Variables are developed as mean and standard deviation. From the
analysis of the results only in the comparison VELML_OA and VELML_OF and in the
AREA COP_OA and AREA COP_OF did not adopt the difference with the acoustic
conversion, p≤0.05. The results confirm that postural control with eyes closed presents greater
oscillation, which would also indicate a greater risk of falling, in this sense the restriction of
the visual system directly interferes with postural balance. It is concluded that the study of the
behavior of the center of pressure has played an important role as a resource for understanding
the relationship between physical activity and the risk of falls in the elderly. This analysis
provides information on how the practice of water aerobics can interfere with the behavior of
anxious people, thus promoting an improvement in the risk of falls in the elderly.
