Utilização do 2-octil-cianoacrilato na ovariectomia de coelhas, comparativamente ao fio de náilon: análise de tempo e alterações macroscópicas

Resumo

The development of mass sterilization programmes implies adopting surgical low cost procedures, fast execution and good post-operative recovery. So, the aim of this study was to evaluate the practicability of 2-octyl-cyanoacrylate surgical adhesive used in the haemostasis of ovarian pedicle in rabbits and skin and musculature juxtaposition as an alternative for nylon suture for surgical castration campaigns in cats and bitches. The rabbits were divided into two groups of ten each. In the first group, NG or nylon group, we used a nylon wire for the pedicle haemostasis, skin and musculature suture. In the second group, OG or 2-octyl-cyanoacrylate group, we used the 2-octyl-cyanoacrylate surgical adhesive instead of nylon wire. The time spent was calculated between the beggining (skin incision) and the end of the procedure (complete skin suture), as well as the time of ligation or pedicle haemostasis, skin and musculature suture. The surgical wound was inspected in five animals of each group, during the period of seven and fourteen days after the surgical procedure. The euthanasia was done in equal numbers of animals during the period of seven and fourteen days. After the euthanasia, the abdominal cavity was inspected to search for adhesion presence and inflammatory process of the uterus and remaining pedicles. In OG, it was verified the occurrence of 60% of adhesions, 10% of evisceration and 20% of free effusion in the cavity in the seventh day of evaluation. In the fourteenth day of evaluation, it was verified 40% of adhesions, 10% of liquid in the cavity and no cases of evisceration were observed. In NG, no occurrence was found in the seventh day and in the fourteenth day, it was found 10% of adhesions and 10% of cavity effusion. It was concluded that the 2-octylcyanoacrylate showed to be efficient in vase-occlusion of the ovarian pedicle, in the juxtaposition of musculature and skin, comparatively to the nylon wire, besides the high occurrence of adhesions and more time taking for the surgical procedures.
