Resumo
Music, as a social practice and language, is present in the lives of human beings, performing
and attending to various functions. With the aim of understanding the place that music
occupies in Early Childhood Education, as well as its role in the formation of the child. This
research was carried out under a qualitative, bibliographical approach, prioritizing the survey
and analysis of scientific productions that deal with the theme of music and Early Childhood
Education. The data processing instrument, elaborated according to the considerations of
Lima and Mioto (2007) and Minayo (1992), allowed the delimitation and description of the
selected works, identifying their contributions to the reflections on the theme. The results
point to the understanding of the potential of music in the integral development of the child,
acting in the development of playfulness, socialization, language, artistic sensitivity,
learning, among others. In addition, it was found that there is a wide range of possibilities
for using music in the daily life of Early Childhood Education, revealing that, for the most
part, music has been meeting traditional concepts based on conditioning routines and
supporting the introduction of other school contents. This study contributes by showing the
framework of current research carried out on the subject, establishing relationships and
distances between them, providing essential elements for reflections on how the conceptions
and uses of music impact on the formation of the child, providing support and necessary
analyzes for (re)signification of musical practices, in order to encompass the dimension of
music as an artistic language and not only in its utilitarian aspect.
