Item Tratamento oclusivo da ambliopia estrabísmica: resultados visuais e adesão(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2018-08-07) Barbosa, Márcia Cartaxo; Isaac, David Leonardo Cruvinel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5474072354473614; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3335187297522447; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; Rocha, Maria Nice Araújo Moraes; Almeida, Cinthia Mendonça de Melo; Rassi, Alan RicardoThis study was conducted to investigate visual results and compliance with occlusion therapy in strabismic amblyopia in a population sample. Data were selected from medical records of patients examinated at the Department of Strabismus of the Reference Center for Ophthalmology – CEROF, Federal University of Goias, Brazil, during the period from January 1st 2011 to January 1st 2017. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive analysis, frequency of occurrence and association tests (p=0.05). We found a significantly higher number of esotropia associated with vertical deviation in the study population. A total resolution of amblyopia with equal visual acuity between the eyes was obtained in 123 patients and an 8.6-fold higher relative risk of obtaining this outcome in the compliance group compared to the non-compliance group. The compliance was 87.5% (253 patients), with 50.9% (147 patients) of the total compliance subgroup (when the occlusion dose was between 80% and 100% of that prescribed). Poor compliance was related to higter final treatment age, higher evasion rate, higher rate of suspension of treatment due to inefficacy, less recurrence and lower rate of maintenance of prophylactic occlusion after treatment. They did not interfere with compliance: initial age of treatment, frequency of revision, origin, prophylactic occlusion prior to treatment, exchange of health care staff team, change of conduct during treatment and follow up of treatment by the parents or other persons.Item Avaliação do genótipo de pacientes com síndrome de Usher do Centro de Referência em Oftalmologia da Universidade Federal de Goiás(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2014-12-16) Cruvinel Filho, Ricardo Campos; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3335187297522447; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; Rassi, Alan Ricardo; Lima, Francisco Eduardo Lopes de; Silva, Leopoldo Magacho dos SantosCross-sectional study conducted at the Center of Reference in Ophthalmology UFG in conjunction with Oregon Health and Science University and the Brazilian Center for Eye Surgery (CBCO). To evaluate the genotype of patients with Usher syndrome of Reference Center for Ophthalmology, Federal University of Goias (UFG-CEROF). Patients clinically diagnosed with SU underwent complete ophthalmic examination, Goldmann manual kinetic perimetry, audiometry and subsequent collection of peripheral blood chromosomal microarray for sequencing. We examined 19 patients with clinical suspicion of SU with a mean age at first visit was 42.5 years (± 12.2) and a slight predominance of males (52.63%). The most prevalent subtype in clinical diagnosis of type I disease (68.4%). The visual acuity measured on the day of the exam for eye examination was 20/92 on the Snellen chart. Examinations audiometry showed hearing loss in all patients ranging from moderate in 12.5% of patients, deep (56.25%) and severe (31.25%). In 36.8% of patients analyzed, we found at least two mutations in the same gene, and of these, 21% were heterozygous mutations, and 15.8% homozygous. The homozygous mutations, which were of the type no sense, occurred in the gene CLRN1 whose patients had a previous diagnosis of USH 2. Met 26.31% of the sample analyzed in heterozygous. Of these, two patients showed mutations in the MYO7A gene (40%), both with clinical suspicion of USH 1. For the proposed methodology, we found no disease-causing mutations in 79% of the sample analyzed. Following the proposed methodology, the authors were able to determine the mutation in seven patients of nineteen patients inclued in this study. Of these, three patients were diagnosed with homozygous mutations in gene CLRN1, and had previous clinical diagnosis of type 2. Two patients had heterozygous mutations in gene MYO7A, both with previous clinical diagnosis of type 1.Item Densidade óptica de pigmento macular em uma amostra da população brasileira(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2017-09-19) Jorge, Letícia Pinto Coelho; Jorge, Eduardo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6297438262354207; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3335187297522447; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; Rassi, Alan Ricardo; Isaac, David Leonardo Cruvinel; Hannouche, Rosana ZacariasMacula lutea is the region of the retina where the yellow pigments lutein and zeaxanthin are concentrated. Oxidative damage seems to be an important factor for exacerbation of several retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, and a protective role of macular pigment has been postulated. The quantitative study of macular pigment and its distribution are possible through the determination of macular pigment optical density (MPOD). The objective of this study was to determine the mean MPOD value in a sample of the Brazilian population and to evaluate the influence of sex, age, ethnicity, smoking history and refractive status on MPOD values in this sample. A cross-sectional study was performed. Forty-two healthy patients had both eyes photographed using Visucam 500 (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany) in combination with the MPOD module. Four variables were obtained: maximum MPOD, mean MPOD, MPOD volume and MPOD area. Demographic data and life habits were collected. The mean MPOD value in the studied population was 0.13 density unit ± 0.02. MPOD values were not influenced by gender, smoking history or refraction. MPOD values were significantly higher among black patients when compared to caucasians. There was a positive but low correlation between mean MPOD and age. To compare the response of bevacizumab and the response of the laser photocoagulation with indirect binocular ophthalmoscope (IBO) in infants with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) stages II or III. METHODS: Data collection was performed in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Hospital Materno Infantil, from May to November 2009. Preterm infants with ROP stages II or III, with or without the plus disease were included. They were divided into two groups: on group I, an intra-vitreous injection of bevacizumab was performed and on group II, laser photocoagulation with IBO was performed. RESULTS: In group I, from the 20 eyes that underwent the application of bevacizumab, there was total regression of ROP with one application in 14 eyes, being 4 eyes with complete regression with two doses of bevacizumab, and 2 eyes with total regression after two applications of bevacizumab and one application of laser. On group II, from the 20 eyes treated with laser photocoagulation with IBO, there was total regression of ROP with laser therapy in 14 eyes and there was total regression with two laser sessions in 6 eyes. CONCLUSION: Bevacizumab is effective if compared to laser photocoagulation in ROP stages II and III.Item O impacto da cirurgia de catarata senil sobre a qualidade de vida de pacientes atendidos em campanha assistencial(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2015-08-11) Santana, Tainara Sardeiro de; Isaac, David Leonardo Cruvinel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5474072354473614; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3335187297522447; Ávila, Marcos Pereira; Rassi, Alan Ricardo; Barbosa, Maria Alves; Paranaguá, Thatianny Tanferri de Brito; Abud, Murilo BatistaPopulation aging is a global trend and brings as a consequence the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases of the elderly such as cataract. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the visual improvement on the 15th day after cataract surgery and the impact on the quality of life of older people. A prospective study was conducted with a quantitative, descriptive and correlational approach, developed with 156 patients with indication for cataract surgery. The surgeries were performed after an agreement between the Department of Health of Amapá and the Reference Center for Ophthalmology/Federal University of Goiás, in September and October 2013. Visual Functioning Questionnaire (VQF-25) was used to evaluate quality of life and Snellen chart was used to measure visual acuity. The visual acuity average in logMAR after 15 days from surgery improved from 1.23 (20/340 Snellen) to 0.57 (20/74 on the Snellen chart) and was statistically significant (p = 0.000). When comparing the average quality of life before and after cataract surgery, the overview subdomain showed the greatest difference between the averages before and after surgery (of 29.65 to 89.87). Correlation analysis showed that the better the visual acuity after surgery, the higher the satisfaction with distance activity, the better eye pain, mental health, addiction and overall satisfaction. The cataract surgery was associated with a positive impact on visual acuity and quality of life of older people. The assistancial campaign was useful to treat patients with cataracts and improved the accessibility to eye care in public health.Item Resultados visuais e tomográficos do implante de anel corneano intraestromal de 140° de arco em ceratocone e DMP(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2016-09-02) Soares, Jordana Sandes Barbosa; Costa, Leonardo Torquetti; CV: http://lattes.cnpq.br/764349194617128; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; CV: http://lattes.cnpq.br/3335187297522447; Ávila, Marcos Pereira de; Cunha, Paulo Ferrara de Almeida; Rodrigues, Francisco Wellington; Isacc, David Leonardo Cruvinel; Rassi, Alan RicardoThe purpose of this study is evaluate the clinical outcomes of implantation of Ferrara intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) with 140 degree of arch length in patients with keratoconus and pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD). This is a longitudinal and retrospective study carried out by analyzing medical records of surgeries performed. First we analyzed all the patients in the same group. After the patients were divided in three groups according to the number of implanted segments and thickness: Group 1 (2 segments 140/20), Group 2 (1 segment 140/15), Group 3 (1 segment 140/20). It was performed corneal tomography by Pentacam (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) in all patients preoperatively and 6 months after surgery and from this examination the following data were extracted: keratometry (k) asphericity (Q) and tomographic astigmatism. Refractive examinations was performed using logMAR visual acuity scale. Data were stored for later analysis SPSS software, version 22.0 (SPSS Inc.Chicago, FL, USA). The results of astigmatism were analyzed arithmetically (not vector analysis), and considering the cylinder axis through vector analysis. We evaluated 67 eyes. The analysis of all patients in the same group showed CDVA improved from +0.5 log MAR ± 0.20 to + 0.3 ± 0.21, (p=0.00). The average keratometry reduced from 49.8 D ± 7.01 to 47.34 D ± 4.90 (p=0.00). The average asphericity changed from -0.60 ± 0.86 to -0.23 ± 0.67 (p=0.00). The mean preoperative tomographic astigmatism decreased from -8.0 D ± 3.45 to -4.53 D ± 2,52 (p=0.00). In group 1, visual acuity improved from 0.4 ± 0.3 log MAR to 0.20 ± 0.1 log MAR (p =0.02), average keratometry reduced from 54.0 ± 6.6 to 49.3 ± 4.3 D (p =0.00), an average asphericity modified -1.1 ± 0.6 to -0.5 ± 0.6 (p=0.00) and reduced astigmatism tomographic -10.3 ± 2.9 to 5.7 ± 1.8 D (p=0.00). In group 2, there was a reduction of tomographic astigmatism from -6.3 ± 2.9 to -3.8 ± 2.2 D (p=0.00), an improvement of visual acuity with correction of 0.4 ± 0.2 Log MAR to 0.2 ± 0.1Log (p=0.00). Group 3 reduced the tomographic astigmatism to -7.5 ± 3.9 to -3.7 ± 2.2 D (p=0.02). We conclude that the 140° arc ring reduces tomographic astigmatism and effectively improves visual acuity, with an option for selected cases of ectasia corneal.
