The conflict expresses differences among the lifestyle dedicated to action and the way of life dedicated to contemplation, among politics and philosophy. Are these completely different activities or would be possible any relationship between them? Motivated primarily by Socrates’ judgment, the tension’s main character, Plato may have started a tradition of philosophy that would prioritize contemplation over action, a tradition broken only with Marx, Nietzsche and Kierkegaard. Such intent would have deformed both acting – dislodging it from the freedom inherent in it, as thought – displacing it from the world and the meanings to a place-none of the philosophers. In this sense, Arendt's critique of philosophy speaks to a specific way of philosophizing: the traditional metaphysical philosophy, the spirit (nous) and theory (theorein), the philosophy of professional thinkers. Arendt's reflections guide us to relocate the thought in the world and in the realm of meanings and, on the other side, to revitalize the action and freedom in its own dignity; to the passage of a philosophy of foundation to a philosophy of understanding; to a friendship in politics and to the care for the world. To illuminate the issues of the thesis, it is made necessary to establish a sort of phenomenology of the work of Arendt, a pasearse in her main works and discussions, as in the problem of action, of freedom, of thought, friendship and the political judgment.Item Tensões entre liberdade e igualdade na teoria política de Hannah Arendt a partir da necessidade(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2018-08-31) Lopes, Samarone de Oliveira; Silva, Adriano Correia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7465568204123045; Silva, Adriano Correia; Lopes, Adriana Delbó; Alves Neto, Rodrigo RibeiroAccording to Hannah Arendt, the full exercise of freedom and equality in life is characterized by action and speech. And these two activities can only be carried out thanks to human plurality. It is by both, the action and the speech, that the human being perceive himself in his double condition: everybody is equal and different from each other. Thus a life without the experience of speech and action can not be constitutive of an active political life. Because it is not possible to think of a freedom that is not exercised among equals, that is, among its peers, the one who dominates the other can not be free, nor even move "in a space where there is freedom." Therefore, only through the action that takes place in the political life, it becomes possible to assure an environment of maintenance of freedom and equality. By equality, Arendt is assertive in telling us that it is not justice, as conceive in modern times. Indeed, according to the Arendt’s political theory, equality would be the very essence of freedom, once to be free meant to be exempt from the inequality present in the act of governing and also moving in a sphere where there was neither governing nor being governed. To be free meant not being under the command or in a position of command. And, finally, not being subject to the life necessities. Then in the light of these issues, we try to revisit the hard conditions reserved for the exercise of freedom and equality, from Antiquity to the Modernity, as presented in the Hannah Arendt’s political theory in conflict with the necessity. It is under this background, that the problem we are dealing with seeks to consider, from the start, the difficulty of articulating freedom and equality in the context of the critical diagnosis that the author makes of our political modernity, from a phenomenon that arises and is named by her as Social Question. However, in view of the fact that such concepts on Arendt are not trivial in a single text of her work, it is necessary to articulate some of her writings. Therefore, in the writing process of this dissertation, we focused on the following writings: "What is Freedom?", an essay present in the work Between the Past and the Future (1968), in order to demonstrate the hues about the phenomenon of freedom experienced in Ancient Greece and the Roman Republic presented by Arendt; The Human Condition (1958) where we seek to indicate the principles of action and speech, both central for the maintenance of freedom and equality; and, finally, On Revolution (1963), a work in which the author credits to the emergence of the Social Question (this hybrid space where private affairs assume the primacy of public affairs) the loss of freedom and political equality. Therefore, from the Social Question that emerges in modernity, Arendt identifies the glorification of animal laborans, which is the moment when all human force and action are turned out exclusively to the maintenance of biological needs. This relationship of work and consumption causes modern human being to replace his capacity for action and discourse for behavior and obedience, enabling the manifestation of a mass society.Item Os limites da política para o animal laborans(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2015-09-03) Ribeiro, Nádia Junqueira; Silva, Adriano Correia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7465568204123045; Silva, Adriano Correia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7465568204123045; Adverse, Helton Machado; Lopes, Adriana DelbóThis work is situated between the defense of the human capability of action, the violent contemporary political scene (which puts men under the dictates of the necessities and makes them atomized) and the possibilities of action in spite of this scene, once men are the eternal guardians of the good news. Thus, the action is central in this work. We begin developing this concept – one of the most original in Arendt’s work – and arguing in benefit of this activity as decisive to reveal the human excellence and, above all, to engender politics. Next, we undertake the critic of the politics in Modernity, seeking to follow the way drew by Arendt until the triumph of the animal laborans – then, also of the labor – and its implications. We return to action in the last chapter, having as central the following question: what are the possibilities of action in a scene in which the animal laborans wins? This defense of the action can be understood as a possibility to find in men what make them truly humans and to give dignity to politics. These possibilities are indicated in the necessity to stabilize the action, but also in the importance of ensuring its spontaneous character. Thus, these possibilities are indicated in the foundation, which stabilizes the action, in the defense of the council system and in the civil disobedience.Item A revelação do “quem” e o tornar-se pessoa: a constituição da personalidade no pensamento de Hannah Arendt(Universidade Federal de Goiás, 2019-12-16) Santos, Juvercino Arcanjo dos; Silva, Adriano Correia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7465568204123045; Silva, Adriano Correia; Chaves, Rosângela Almeida; Nunes, Igor Vinícius BasilioThe Zeitgeist of contemporaneity more sharply than other times distance the individual interests of the higher activities in the individual. In this context, Hannah Arendt's claim has relevant prestige to think about the crises in the current context. Among the crises that bring us closer, that of personality - an element of idiosyncrasy in the subject - is perhaps the most significant although the least noticed. The purpose of this paper is to explore Arendt's notion of person, so as to demonstrate the dazzling of this individual element that each individual brings with him. The loss of this element is more noticeable with modernity, more markedly with the concentration camps, and in such a way that the way of life deprived of political freedom is reduced to the contemporaneousness of life, reduced to the maintenance of vital activities, an animal laborans, actions. To do so, we seek to verify the notion of becoming person involved with the activities of the spirit and the activities of the active life. This notion can be summed up as the choice of how one intends to appear in the public world of appearance. Rarely referred to by Arendt, but which arises from his speeches and conferences. In the first moment we approach the personality from types of person from the references of the activities of thought and judgment. Secondly, we seek to bring Arendt's phenomenology into the relation of thought and the appearance of the public world of politics, and for this it is necessary to go through the dismantling of the personality within the concentration camps and the victory of animal laborans, and we will finally analyze what this notion of person actually consists of and its relation to Arendtian ethics, fully demonstrated in moral personalities.
