Resumo

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the vegetables that has shown the greatest growth in cultivation in recent decades, with a harvest of 4.5 million tons in Brazil in 2018, with Goiás being the largest producer in the country. Usually, the determination of the chemical profile and pesticide residues in tomatoes is performed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS), which provide high analytical performance but require several steps of sample preparation. This work employed a simpler and faster technique, the paper spray ionization mass spectrometry (PSI-MS). PSI-MS was combined with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to differentiate the varieties of table tomatoes in a scenario that aims to determine and identify each variety’s chemical constituents. This study also aimed to determine the insecticide chlorpyrifos and the fungicide cyazofamid in the peel of the varieties BS II0012 and Sweet Heaven. The chemical profile obtained from the analysis of the peels of thirty-one varieties of table tomatoes (Flatten, Elongated, Cherry, Beefstake and Santa Cruz) was determined by PSI(-)-MS, resulting in reproducible mass spectra with signals that. The samples were grouped according to the variety using PCA. The principal ions were m/z 191 (C6H8O7), 271 (C15H12O5), 609 (C27H30O16), 695 (C39H68O8P), and 741 (C32H38O20), and were identified using fragmentation experiments. Finally, a quantitative method was developed for the determination of the fungicide cyazofamid by PSI(+)-MS using the peels of the tomatoes BS II0012 and Sweet Heaven as matrices. The method showed a calibration curve with R2>0.99 and limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of 10 ng.mL-1 and 25 ng.mL-1, respectively. The recovery ranged from 89% to 108%, within the established by ANVISA (2017). The results obtained in this work reinforce the potential of the PSI-MS technique as a fast and simple analytical technique for the evaluation and determination of the chemical profile and pesticide residue in tomatoes.
