Resumo

Since the late 1980’s, we have seen a growing number of academic articles, research groups and events that have critically discussed the relationship between Physical Education and health, especially from the involvement with the field of Public Health. With the intention to contribute with this debate, this research sought to analyze the guidelines, legal framework and academic articles regarding Physical Education on Public Health and also to analyze perceptions of the managers and the multi-professional teams regarding the contribution of Physical Education to the work developed by Family health Support Center (NASF) in Goiânia/GO. To do so, we sought to base our analyses and reflections on the thoughts of Latin American social medicine and on the polytechnic education. The object of study was delimited through the analysis of the Brazilian Ministry of Health documents and academic production on Physical Education and its relationships with Public Health found in CAPES thesis bank. We adopted participant research approach, while for data collection we used questionnaires, participant observation and semi-structured interviews with 21 NASF professionals in Goiania/GO. All collected data were analyzed according to Thematic Analysis supported by WebMD software. The results indicate that management stood out as one of the main problems at NASF, in which its work proposal centered on matrix support caused some resistance in some Family Health strategy teams. Most NASF professionals have an eclectic view of interdisciplinarity, although the reflection on the specialty shows itself as a possibility of reflection from other references. The field of Physical Education in this context has wage inequality and a insufficient number of professionals; nevertheless contributions were identified with groups, in territory projects, at Academia da Saúde (Health Academy), as well as in overcoming health practices centered on assistential practices, from the concepts of health and territory promotion. However, these contributions are limited in the current historical moment, for the behavioral, biologicist and curative bias are still hegemonic in the academic formation processes and in the professional practices. We conclude that the poor working conditions at NASF in Goiania and other cities show the proposal´s fragility in both: the strengthening of the principles of Primary Health Care and its role as coordination of care in the health service network. Lastly, we identified the need for the professionals of Physical Education to be more deeply involved in the effort for the public health in Brazil as a social right reassuring the utopic emancipating society project within the movement of national sanitary reform.
