Resumo
The construction industry continues to face challenges such as delays, unforeseen and elevated
costs, and significant waste generation, which negatively impact the environment and resource
consumption. With the shift in consumer behavior and the end of the sector's peak until 2010,
it has become essential to improve processes, planning, and production control to ensure
competitiveness and profitability. Recent studies highlight that making-do wastes are one of the
main causes of inefficiencies, resulting in significant waste of materials, labor, and equipment.
Deepening studies related to these wastes is crucial to increasing controls, improving
performance, and reducing the impacts generated by them. Therefore, this work aims to meet
the requirements of the final product, necessary for approval in the Graduate Program in
Production Engineering – PPGEP at UFG (PPGEP, FCT UFG, 2024), and is structured in the
format of a collection of articles. The first article aimed, through a Systematic Literature
Review, to explore research on the waste category presented by Koskela (2004) and possible
data modeling approaches to propose guidelines that minimize making-do wastes at
construction sites. The second article aimed to propose a methodology based on the
establishment of guidelines to reduce the occurrence of making-do wastes through the
prevention of their causes. For this, a database containing a survey of making-do wastes at
residential building construction sites was processed, from which 420 wastes were obtained,
and 47 different guidelines were elaborated that applied to different stages of construction. The
third and final article presents a multi-criteria decision-making model, using Fuzzy-Delphi and
TOPSIS methods, to assist managers in selecting the most effective guidelines to reduce the
impacts caused by making-do wastes at construction sites. It addresses the issue of making-do
wastes in the construction industry and proposes a multi-criteria decision model to reduce these
impacts. As a result of the conclusion of the three articles, it was demonstrated that the
combination of the Fuzzy-Delphi and TOPSIS methods was effective in addressing a decisionmaking problem regarding the potential of the proposed guidelines to reduce the impacts
generated by making-do wastes, providing an objective ranking of the guidelines and accuracy
to assist the manager in identifying the options with the highest performance potential.
