dc.description.abstractAt the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, authors and intellectuals from the philosophical, literary criticism and theory of history constituted an intellectual context in Germany. They were committed to thinking about issues involving the constitution of sciences, knowledge and aesthetics. It was in this environment that Walter Benjamin wrote one of his most complex works of youth, presented as the book Origin of German Tragic Drama. The book presents its hypotheses about the form of tragic drama present in the German Baroque theater, which is characterized by elements of modernity, constituting a historicity. For Benjamin, the concept of origin (Sprung) is a pre- and post-historical one, which in the Baroque period is linked to the constitution of the German nation, the Protestant Reformation, the 30 Years' War and the Napoleonic invasions. Therefore, considering the fractures caused by these events, the Baroque could not be thought of as a continuation of the Renaissance or of Greek tragedies for the consolidation of German culture in the way that intellectuals in Benjamin's context claimed. Therefore, we will seek in the study Origin of German Tragic Drama to understand how Benjamin used and analyzed the role of aesthetics to think about the theory of knowledge of history that dialogued with his contemporaries. We will thus discuss methodological and scientific issues from the debate on: Origin, method and knowledge, which will allow us to affirm that the tension between the aesthetic and the historical is constitutive of a modern time.eng

dc.description.resumoNo final do século XIX e início do século XX, autores e intelectuais do meio filosófico, da crítica literária e da teoria da história constituíram um contexto intelectual na Alemanha. Eles estavam empenhados a pensar as questões envolvendo a constituição das ciências, do conhecimento e da estética. Foi nesse ambiente que Walter Benjamin escreveu um dos seus trabalhos mais complexos de juventude, apresentado como o livro Origem do Drama Trágico Alemão. O livro apresenta as suas hipóteses sobre a forma do drama trágico presente no teatro Barroco Alemão, que se caracteriza por elementos da modernidade, constituidora de uma historicidade. Para Benjamin, o conceito de origem (Sprung) é um “pré e pós” histórico, que no Barroco está ligado à constituição da nação alemã, a Reforma Protestante, a Guerra dos 30 Anos e às invasões napoleônicas. Logo, considerando as fraturas causadas por esses eventos, o Barroco não poderia ser pensado como continuação do Renascimento ou das tragédias gregas para a consolidação da cultura alemã da maneira que afirmavam os intelectuais do contexto de Benjamin. Por isso buscaremos no estudo Origem do Drama Trágico Alemão entender como Benjamin usou e analisou os aspectos estéticos do Barroco para dialogar com a História em um contexto intelectual. Nos possibilitando pensar como isso construiu em Benjamin uma percepção de tempo moderno e de Barroco.
