Geografia e geógrafos: o pensamento da geografia agrária nos programas de pós-graduação em Geografia da Universidade Federal de Goiás

Abstract

In order to contribute to the field of research related to the history of geographic thought, we attempted, in this dissertation, to make an analysis of the agrarian geography in Goiás, from the dissertations and theses elaborated by the three Postgraduate Programs in Geography of Federal University of Goiás (UFG): in the Institute of Socio-environmental Studies, in the Catalão campus and in the Jataí campus, from 1995 to 2015. For the purpose of understanding the configuration of agrarian space based on academic production, the methodology used was in reference to the bibliographical review, bias analysis of the dissertations and theses and interviews with the teachers who guided the research in agrarian geography. The undertaken research allowed to verify the topics covered, the Geography conception and agrarian geography of the supervisors of these dissertations and theses, and the institutional context in which they were produced. The theoretical and methodological formation of the advisors shows that the construction of a critical analysis was present, that is, the theoretical referential linked to Marxism, the denunciation position of social inequalities, the adoption of dialectical materialism and the concept of agrarian geography based on the agrarian issue are identified characteristics in most speeches. In general terms, the interests of research depend on the territorial dynamics of agribusiness and its contradictions, a more present tendency in the investigations on the South of Goiás, as well as the analyzes on the peasants, the family agriculture and the small farmer, with the predominance of the works on public policies and strategies of reproduction and struggle for land, as a way of resisting in the field. Still on the themes, this analysis exercise allowed to observe the presence, in less quantity of research on the rural way of life and the education in the field, the analysis of the environmental impacts resulting from the advance of the agricultural frontier and the evaluation of the productivity of grains that were instructed by teachers adopting another type of method. The modernization of agriculture is the main theme of a narrative that illustrates the scenario of the development of agriculture in the state of Goiás. It is the context in which the transformations of the territory are justified, although there is no theoretical convergence surrounding the concept of modernization.
