Abstract

This research consists of investigating, from my process of creating an authorial comic, ways to answer the following question: How can discussions of gender, race and religious intolerance be represented through allegories in fantasy universes? This research project aims to investigate the discussion about gender, race and religious intolerance in the form of an allegory in comics. This should be done through the exploration of my creative process in the elaboration of an authorial comic book, which addresses such themes in an allegorical way, through the appropriation of the visuality of comics as an artistic expression. Thus, the need arises to constitute a research in art by recording the process of creating the narrative and the way in which the parallels, the themes are translated and represented within the contributed fictional universe. I still present here my methodology referring to a research in art, where the focus is the artist's creation process and the concepts of "allegory", from Walter Benjamin, and the concept of "social representations". Also following are the indications of a synthesis of the process, which should be done through the exploration of my creative process in the elaboration of an authorial comic strip, which touches on issues relevant to contemporary society and can be portrayed in an allegorical way, through appropriating the visuality of comics as an artistic expression, and how these questions are postulated from my repertoire in dialogue with other comic book production chains, experimenting from analog to digital. In this way, I seek to investigate the critical and reflective character that comics can encompass as they propose to face issues of great seriousness that affect thousands of people, such as racism and intolerance.
