dc.description.abstractThe hermitism was a form of solitary holiness that was opposed to cenobitic life. In the Anglo-Norman period, the north of current England, the royal domain in the Nortumbria region faced opposition and difficulties in implantation. Benedictine monasteries had an influence in the region. The interactions between the Benedictine priory of Durham and Saint Godric of Finchale (1067-1170), a local saint hermit who lived in Finchale, showed the ecclesiastical interest, particularly the monastic one, in the hermitic manifestations that occurred in the area. Our research proposal is to understand the strategies developed by the Benedictines of that institution for the construction of a model of eremitic sanctity through the Life of Saint Godric (VSG). This Vita was made in the Benedictine priory of Durham in the second half of the 12th century and is attributed to the monk Reginaldo de Durham (? -1190). It was necessary to discuss the particularities of the hermitage movement and its close connection with the reintroduction of regular life in the wide Northumbria region. The relations between the ideals of ascetic and cenobitic life were also marked by tensions and by points of contact and reciprocity. These two models of religious life (the cenobitic and the hermitic) can be related from the connections of the priory of Durham, the monastic community, with the hermits that were in their orbit, between the second half of the 11th century and the 12th century. The identification and understanding of the holiness model conveyed in the VSG indicate the demands that the stereotype of holy man and the concept of holiness sought to meet.eng

dc.description.resumoO eremitismo foi uma forma de santidade solitária que se contrapunha à vida cenobítica. No período anglo-normando, o norte da atual Inglaterra, o domínio régio na região da Nortúmbria, enfrentava oposição e dificuldades de implantação. Os mosteiros beneditinos tinham influência na região. As interações entre o priorado beneditino de Durham e São Godric de Finchale (1067-1170), um santo eremita local que viveu em Finchale, evidenciaram o interesse eclesiástico, em particular o monástico, nas manifestações eremíticas que ocorreram na área. A nossa proposta de pesquisa é compreender as estratégias desenvolvidas pelos beneditinos da referida instituição para a construção de um modelo de santidade eremítica por meio da Vida de São Godric (VSG). A referida Vita foi confeccionada no priorado beneditino de Durham na segunda metade do século XII e é atribuída ao monge Reginaldo de Durham (?-1190). Foi necessário discutir as particularidades do movimento eremítico e a sua estreita conexão com a reintrodução da vida regular na ampla região da Nortúmbria. As relações entre os ideais da vida ascética e cenobítica foram também marcadas por tensões e por pontos de contato e reciprocidade. Esses dois modelos de vida religiosa (o cenobítico e o eremítico) podem ser relacionados a partir das conexões do priorado de Durham, a comunidade monástica, com os eremitas que estavam em sua órbita, entre a segunda metade do século XI e o século XII. A identificação e a compreensão do modelo de santidade veiculado na VSG indicam as demandas que o estereótipo de homem santo e a concepção de santidade buscaram atender.pt_BR
