Resumo
The purpose of this paper is to understand how deep-dive daily news podcasts – a category
created by Newman and Gallo (2019a) – are configured in Brazil in terms of content and to
what extent it is possible to establish relationships with citizenship. For this, a 25 episodes
Content Analysis of the following podcasts Estadão Notícias, Café da Manhã, Ao Ponto, E Tem
Mais and O Assunto was carried out. They all follow a similar structure, and their main reference
model is The Daily, a podcast by The New York Times, a forerunner in the format that became
a great success. The programs are analyzed from the perspective of post-industrial journalism,
a term that refers to a journalism involving forms of production whose physical proximity to the
newsroom and production machines is not necessary (SEARLS, 2001). Technology appears as
a central element and a modifier of journalistic activity, enabling press professionals to rethink
their role in order to maintain their societal relevance. In this exercise, functions that cannot be
performed by machines stand out, such as interpretation and analysis of facts, which constitute
the backbone of the analyzed podcasts. Both aim to “explain the world” and to inform based on
data, journalistic background, and contextualization of the facts so that, indeed, there could be
a comprehensive understanding of the facts by the recipients. Its contributions to citizenship
involve the democratization of information, the various social functions inherent to the
journalistic genres present in podcasts, and also the concern with citizens' understanding of the
facts, so that they can better support their own decisions.
