Nós por nós: representação e autoria trans e travesti na antologia subversives, de Daniele Cavalcante

Abstract

This work primarily investigates three fronts: first, using the research of Regina Dalcastagnè (2012), the state of contemporary Brazilian literature is discussed and who are those who have a voice within such a homogeneous market. Secondly, the importance of subjects belonging to historically marginalized groups telling their own stories and, finally, the construction of trans identities in the book Subversives, released by Editora Triquetra in 2022 and organized by Daniele Cavalcante. The book, an anthology of short stories written by trans, is a work of fantastic literature, especially urban fantasy. For the construction and realization of this work, the short stories in the book were analyzed in three different ways: in their literary construction, in how the identities of the characters and authors dialogue with the identities of trans readers and in which transmedia references these authors rely to tell and enrich your story. These stories, escaping from the cisgender imaginary of trans identity as a premature death sentence, build worlds in which their characters exist, resist and live without necessarily discussing only the fact they are trans. As a theoretical foundation for gender issues, Judith Butler (2003) and her concept of heterosexual matrix; Stuart Hall (2006), with his concept of new identities and Berenice Bento (2008), with her considerations on the identity experience of transgender life, were used. In addition to authors such as Michel Foucault (2009), Donna Haraway (2009) and Giorgio Agambem (2010) for proper delving into literary issues and also in the construction of the short stories.
